Joseph Carbone’s lifelong love affair with comic books began back in 1984. Having just moved from New Jersey to New York after his mother’s second marriage, Joe broke into a high fever that sent him into convulsions and put him in the hospital for a few days. Upon his return home, his new step-father had a gift awaiting him. Richard Carbone had bought him a copy of the Fisher-Price storytape book Superman: From Krypton to Metropolis.
Everyone knows the story that was told in that book. A young boy from a doomed world is sent to Earth by his loving parents to become the greatest super-hero of all.
As Joe listened to the story of The Man of Steel his mind was overwhelmed by what he was hearing. Soon Joe had the whole collection of DC story books and he marveled at the tales of Batman, Wonder Woman and The Justice League of America. Soon episodes of The Super friends would introduce him to Cyborg, Aquaman ,The Flash and Green Lantern, and that was the end for young Joe. He quickly became a fanboy.
In time his room became a haven for Dark Lords of the Sith, young Jedi, Japanese toys and all manner of geek toys.Spidermen hung from ceilings, Superman’s logo was on everything and anything Stan Lee’s name was associated with became the Holy Grail. It was only natural that Joe found himself drawn like a moth to the comic industry.
Being unable to draw even the dot over a lowercase I, Joe had to develop another skill if he intended to make something of himself in comics, the skill of writing. Having played Dungeons and Dragons for years as an off again on again DM, Joe understood how to tell a story he just needed to learn how to write one.
Over the years he found many outlets to hone his writing talents. Most notably Roleplayinggames.net where he learned how to perfect his grammar and how to tell a story that draws the attention of the reader into it.
In 2011 Joe realized the time to make his dream possible was upon him and he launched Coat of Arms Comics. As the head writer and creator of stories like “The Chronicles of Mayre”, “Conquistador” and “Fierce Force Five” it’s Joes lasting hope that Coat of Arms Comics will change how a story is told in comic books while offering his readers the most content and creativity he can muster.
